Laminate Maker is a simple, easy to use, free, software tool for side-by-side comparison of cost and bending deflection of fiberglass laminates of various fiber configurations and fiber contents in composite structures. Stress-Partition Micromechanics predicts unidirectional laminate properties as a function of fiber content, using test data from laminates made with FGI fiber glass and Interplastic's isophthalic resin (CoREZYN COR75-AQ-010). Classical Laminated Plate Theory is then used to calculate properties for each fabric in the laminate menu, and laminate properties for all the layers together (mats are modeled as quasi-isotropic). Some basic laminate properties are summarized, including material cost, weight, thickness, and in-plane elastic properties. Three deflection calculation options are offered to compare bending stiffness. See VIDEOS for step-by-step how-to-use instruction. Resin cost and fiber cost are tracked to the penny. Different fabrics can have different costs, and the fiber content figures out how much resin is in the laminate.
Compare hand layup versus infused laminates by changing the fiber content (for example, 50% for hand layup, and 70% for infused are typical values).
